2020 Board of Directors Nominations

Nominations are currently open for the 2020 Green Building United Board of Directors Election! Please see bottom of the page for application form.  

This incoming class of Board members will serve for a three-year term from December 2020 until November 2022. If you have any questions, please contact Leah Wirgau. Nominations are due Monday, September 21st. 

Before submitting a nomination, please read the Board of Directors Responsibilities and Expectations document and Green Building United Conflict of Interest Policy.

2020 Election Timeline

Thursday, September 10th  | Call for nominations begins

Monday, September 21st | Nominations due at noon

Friday, September 25th  | Presentation of nomination slate to Board of Directors

Monday, September 28th - Friday, October 2nd  | Candidate notification 

Monday, October 5th - Friday, October 23rd   | Online voting by members

Thurday, December 17th | New Directors attend Board Meeting

Election Process

Step 1: Nominations will be accepted from September 10th - September 21st. After the nomination period, the Governance and Executive Committees will evaluate the applications using the criteria noted below. Applicants will be notified if they have been selected for the slate no later than Friday, October 2nd.

Step 2: Voting for the Board of Director elections will be open from October 5th through October 23rd. Voting is conducted online via the Green Building United website and only members of Green Building United may vote. Candidates will be notified of the results prior to public announcement.

2020 Board Candidate Criteria

The Green Building United Governance Committee will use criteria below to evaluate all nominees. Based on these criteria a ballot will be established with the slate of candidates for the open board seats. During voting, members may vote for or against the entire slate, or for or against individual candidates. 

Nominees should:

  • Bring substantive knowledge and experience related to Green Building United's mission
  • Contribute to the Board’s demographic diversity, as well as in geography, skills, and overall perspective.
  • Bring the ability and willingness to help secure funding for Green Building United's programs through sponsorships, corporate and charitable sources, and other significant sources of funding.
  • Bring the ability and willingness to influence key players and sectors in the industry, including high priority sectors of real estate, corporate, energy/utility, finance, residential and product manufacturers.
  • Have the ability and willingness to abide by the Board of Directors Responsibilities and Expectations.
  • Exhibit a passion for sustainability with the ability to advocate for and support the mission of Green Building United.
