According to the City of Philadelphia's Growing Stronger: Toward a climate-ready Philadelphia, our changing climate shows that residents and infrastructure will be negatively impacted by:
Cheyenne Flores from City of Philadelphia's Office of Sustainability will provide an introduction of climate resilience and what some of the risks to Philadelphia are including the comparative energy burden and heat disparities between neighborhoods.
Then we will move into a panel discussion about specific aspects of community climate resilience, led by community-based organizations that are doing exemplary work. Panelists include Alexandra McFadden from Centennial Parkside Community Development Corporation who will discuss their solar energy initiatives, Jasmin Velez from Esperanza who will discuss their tree planting initiatives, and David Gonzalez from HACE Management Company who will discuss how they are taking steps to help their affordable rental housing tenant reduce energy use and improve comfort.
We invite urban planners, project managers, developers, community groups, and any interested community members to participate. No background knowledge or skillset is required - all are welcome!
