Climate Challenges & Strategies in Delaware: Perspectives from Private & Public Sectors

The State of Delaware faces unique climate challenges and local communities must act quickly to ensure a resilient future.

This session, the first in a series of climate resiliency presentations, will include perspectives from policymakers, green building and infrastructure professionals, and community development nonprofits on how to ensure that we move towards climate resiliency in an intentional, equitable, and efficient manner. Participants will receive an overview of multiple mini-case studies that will allow them to assess the effectiveness of sustainability initiatives of varying types of communities and how project planning and implementation can impact long-term impact and effectiveness. This presentation will offer background into the challenges of addressing climate resiliency in Delaware as well as take a look at the progress that has been made in local policy and development in recent years.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will evaluate key climate vulnerabilities in the region such as those outlined in the Delaware Climate Action Plan and how those may impact various communities throughout the region.
  • Participants will assess the primary strategies being used to address eminent climate challenges due to climate change and plan for climate resiliency over the next several decades.
  • Participants will gain an understanding of how key structural barriers in communities already addressing economic, racial, and environmental injustice can reduce access to the benefits and long-term impact sustainability initiatives provide.
  • Participants will evaluate how resiliency objectives can be implemented to ensure that all communities can equitably benefit from climate action and available resources.
