What’s cooler than being cool? Ice cold!
And ice cold is even better when paired with an educational, problem-based, FUN event that sheds real-life light on the importance of green building!
Using the international, traveling experiment “The Ice House Challenge” as a model, the Passive House and Living Future Communities of Green Building United are teaming up with RAIR (Recycled Artist in Residency) to create their own tinier Ice Box Challenge event to learn together how to construct energy efficient, comfortable, and healthy buildings on a small scale.
Situated within Revolution Recovery’s waste recycling facility, RAIR, a nonprofit, facilitates cross- disciplinary dialogue about art, sustainability and waste culture while offering artists and designers access to over 500 tons of trash per day. RAIR will host the event outdoors and provide a selection of diverted material for teams to use for construction. Teams will then design and construct their Ice Boxes, fill their boxes with ice, and wait to see how their box performs! While teams are waiting for the final results, RAIR will lead a tour of the recycling facility and art studio to learn about other creative ways to think about the waste stream.
The event will be a great opportunity to educate our community, meet new friends, and elevate the importance of high performing buildings! Come one, come all, whether you’re a seasoned Passive House professional, a committed Living Futurist, or just curious about material reuse and efficient construction; come on your own, or bring friends – teams will be formed at the start of the event.
The event will have snacks, drinks, and good conversations! In the event of rain, we’ll be under cover [in a well-ventilated porch area tbd]. Arrive at 5:45 for the 6 pm event on the longest day of the year!
Everyone is welcome – register today!
Attendance is limited to 30 people
