Wed, 5/8/2019 - 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Kieran Timberlake, 841 North American Street, Philadelphia, PA 19123

Join us as we continue our Passive Rowhouse HVAC series to focus on ventilation and domestic hot water design!

Building on Part 1: Heating & Cooling System Design, in Part 2 we will learn about the design and pitfalls of passive house ventilation using ERV’s & HRV’s. We will cover: the what, where, when, why, and how of ventilation; analyze the energy requirements and consumption of ventilation air; and cover humidity considerations in the Philadelphia area, answering the questions:

  • What is ventilation air?
  • Why do I need ventilation air?
  • When should I ventilate? How do I deal with variable ventilation needs?
  • Where should my ventilation air come from? How do I get it to where it needs to go?
  • How can I ventilate my passive house? Can I open my windows? Can I have a professional kitchen in a Passive house?
  • How much is necessary? Balanced vs. supply only, vs. exhaust only?

We will also delve into various domestic hot water system designs. Energy use for residential domestic hot water is huge! There are many different ways to design these systems for your home. Which will work best for you? Join us and find out!
