Building a Sustainable Tomorrow: Green Building United’s 3-Year Strategic Plan Unveiled
As we stand on the precipice of a new era of transition to a sustainable built environment, Green Building United is proud to unveil our 3-year strategic plan—a testament to the dedication, ingenuity, and collaborative spirit that defines our organization. You can read the new strategic plan here.
The journey to get to this point has been marked by the unwavering commitment of our Strategic Planning Committee and the invaluable feedback from our Board, staff, communities, and committees. I am proud of this document, its focus on equity and inclusion, and on a clear vision of how GBU will continue on its mission of transforming our built environment.
A Collaborative Process: Equity at the Heart of Our Vision
At the core of our strategic plan is a commitment to collaboration and equity. These are not just words, they are a philosophy that permeates every aspect of our vision for the next three years. Equity is not an addendum but a foundational principle, incorporated into the very fabric of our plan. We aim to create an environment where every individual, regardless of background, has a voice, and where our initiatives address the root causes of societal challenges.
Reflecting Where We Are: Evolving Green Building United’s Mission and Vision
Our strategic plan is not a departure but a reflection of where Green Building United stands today. It recognizes our current initiatives, providing a roadmap for growth without losing sight of our foundational principles. As we look forward to the next three years, the plan envisions a future where our impact extends even further, our network expands to include new partners, and our commitment to sustainable building practices deepens.
How We’ll Get There: Strategies, Objectives, and Activities
Green Building United’s new strategic plan is built on five interlocking strategies to help achieve our updated mission and vision. Within each strategy, GBU’s Strategic Planning Committee worked with our consultants at Energetics and consulted with membership to identify concrete objectives and activities to advance these high-level strategies. Many of them build on long-time GBU activities, while others are new opportunities reflecting the shifting context that our staff and membership operate within.
Implementing Change: The Road Ahead
With the strategic plan in hand, our journey continues. The coming months will see the commencement of our planned implementation phase. We will kickstart this process with in-depth staff and Board planning, where the strategies and actions embedded in the plan will be discussed, refined, and set into motion.
As we embark on this transformative journey, we invite every member of the Green Building United community to read this plan and let us know how we can be supportive. Together, we will build a sustainable tomorrow—one where innovation, equity, and collaboration converge to create a lasting impact on our communities and built environment at large.
The future is bright, and together, we are shaping it. Green Building United is not just an organization; it’s a movement, and our strategic plan is the compass guiding us towards a future we can all be proud of.
