Green Building United (GBU) is excited to announce an opportunity to lead the development and implementation of our Regional High-Performance Building Hub (“the Hub”) as the High-Performance Building Director. This role is at the forefront of GBU’s mission to advance an equitable transition to a climate-friendly and healthy built environment.
About the Regional High-Performance Building Hub
The Regional High-Performance Building Hub is an ambitious initiative designed to serve the City of Philadelphia and its neighboring counties in Southeastern Pennsylvania, including Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery. This region, home to over 4.2 million residents and spanning 2,156 square miles, is poised to lead the way in achieving critical climate goals and building performance standards. The Hub’s mission is to provide centralized, neutral resources that empower stakeholders across the building industry and community to embrace high-performance building practices.
Key goals of the Hub include:
- Supporting emissions reduction and equity through targeted outreach to underserved entities, including affordable multifamily housing, community-serving businesses, and nonprofit organizations.
- Increasing awareness and adoption of energy-efficient and decarbonization measures.
- Offering one-on-one support, simplified resources, and comprehensive training programs.
- Expanding access to funding opportunities and fostering partnerships with contractors and consultants.
As a strategic initiative of GBU, the Hub will leverage our extensive network and reputation while establishing itself as an independent, trusted resource for diverse stakeholders. This initiative is crucial for scaling equitable climate solutions in our region and beyond.
About the Position
The High-Performance Building Director will play a pivotal role in bringing the Hub to life. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead strategic planning, build partnerships, and guide the development of programs that will transform the building landscape in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Lead the launch and implementation of the Hub in alignment with GBU’s Regional Buildings Hub business plan. Drive program development, resource creation, and stakeholder engagement to meet the evolving needs of the region.
- Team Management: Build and manage a dedicated team, fostering growth and collaboration to maximize the Hub’s impact.
- Resource Development: Oversee the creation of tools and materials such as financial planning guides, service provider directories, and educational resources that empower stakeholders to navigate high-performance building practices.
- Partnership Building: Collaborate with technical consultants, advisory groups, community organizations, and industry leaders to ensure that programs and resources are accurate, relevant, and accessible.
- Outreach and Representation: Represent GBU and the Hub at public events, government sessions, technical trainings, and industry convenings, serving as a thought leader and advocate for sustainable building practices.
- Program Support: Contribute to existing GBU programs, including the Climate-Ready Capital Projects initiative and the City of Philadelphia’s benchmarking
- building tune-up programs.
Qualifications and Skills
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Demonstrated expertise in high-performance building practices, energy efficiency, and/or sustainable design.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams and complex projects.
- Exceptional communication abilities, including public speaking and technical writing.
- A collaborative approach to building partnerships and engaging stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
- Familiarity with regional climate goals, building performance standards, and funding mechanisms.
