As we kick off a new year at Green Building United, and as Chair to the Board of Directors, I am excited to share updates about our new leadership and transitions!

New Board Leadership

As the new Chair of Green Building United’s Board, I was grateful to have our former Chair, Susan Lowry’s leadership during 2022 that included the executive director search and selection of Rich Freeh as our E.D. We  also returned to in-person events for the first time since early 2020. The Board is excited to share that Lisa Shulock has agreed to serve as GBU’s Board Chair in 2023. Lisa says, “This is an exciting time for GBU. Rich is fully engaged (and promises me he isn’t drinking from a firehose any more). And four staff people have joined GBU in the last six months. To learn more about the GBU staff, find them on the GBU website. We are about to launch a strategic planning process which we are very excited about and you will be getting periodic updates about through the GBU newsletter and other communications.

New and Returning Board Members

Green Building United members elected Ron Becker and Mary Hall to the Board and re-elected Kristin Sullivan, Ryan Spies, and Amy Cornelius. Amy returns to the Board after serving as GBU’s Interim Executive Director in the first half of 2022. In February, the Board will consider the appointment of Manny Feris for a one-year term to represent the Lehigh Valley Community. You can get to know all Board members here.

Thank You to Departing Members

GBU’s Board wishes to thank Charles Loomis, Don Haas, Michael Jouaneh, and Yogesh Saoji for their service to the Board. While they are leaving the Board of Directors after six years of service, we know they’ll continue to be involved in GBU’s Communities and Committees in the years ahead.

If you’re interested in learning more about Green Building United’s Board of Directors and opportunities for nomination, please contact GBU’s Governance Chair, Ariella Maron, or Executive Director Rich Freeh.
