5 Ways Together We're Creating Impact

Green Building United                  is your organization.

Two recent major publications highlight the urgency and the impact of Green Building United’s work in the built environment:

  • First, the October IPCC report shows that we only have until 2030 to prevent the most severe climate change scenarios. This will require a 45% drop in global carbon emissions and unprecedented investment and mobilization on climate solutions.
  • Second, the U.S. Energy Information Agency’s report highlights how the electric power supply’s carbon intensity has dropped 28% since 2005 (while GDP continued to grow), and that half of this reduction is attributed to reduced demand, much of that from energy efficient buildings.

For all of us at Green Building United, this serves as a call to action and a reminder that the work that we do together is a critical piece of the climate solution.

With your support, Green Building United is making an impact across our network and throughout the region, serving as the locus of green building and sustainability activity. We are counting on your commitment to expanding our work in 2019 and hope you will consider making a financial gift this season.

My appreciation,

With your support - we are creating impact in greem building policy and advocacy!

Green Building United and our diverse professional membership advocate for policy and legislation that advances a sustainable and healthy built environment. We provide legislative updates and information to our members to engage their expertise in refining legislative language, educating elected officials, delivering testimony, and supporting implementation.

Highlights from the past year include:

  • Green Building United’s leadership and support of the recent adoption of the 2018 International Building Codes by the City of Philadelphia. The new codes impact energy savings of more than 30% for all new commercial buildings and renovations.
  • Adoption of Property Assessed Clean Energy Financing (C-PACE) legislation by the Commonwealth. C-PACE is a financing tool for energy efficiency and clean energy projects for new and existing buildings.

In 2019 Green Building United will focus on:

  • Developing residential energy disclosure legislation to provide potential homebuyers and tenants in Philadelphia with utility cost information that can help communicate the true cost to own or rent.
  • Enabling community solar on a state level for deployment in communities throughout Pennsylvania.
  • Gearing up for the next phase of Pennsylvania’s Act 129 to ensure that rebate and incentive programs maximize energy use reduction from Pennsylvania’s major electric distribution companies.

This is just the start of the energy efficiency improvements and sustainability we’ll advocate for throughout the region!

With your support we are creating impact through exceptional green building networking experiences!

Green Building United hosts three annual signature events - the Sustainability Symposium, New Gravity Housing Conference, and Groundbreaker Awards - each attracting hundreds of attendees.
Our signature events feature open invitations for session proposals or project nominations, heightened visibility for presenters, awardees, and sponsors, and excellent space for networking. Additionally, each event provides the invitation to share your expertise, market your services, and connect and learn from others!

Green Building United also includes time to network at all events and hosts quarterly happy hours.

With your support we are creating impact through green building initiatives!

Through our strategic initiatives, Green Building United supports on-the-ground work to make our region’s built environment more sustainable. From large commercial buildings, to K-12 schools, to neighborhood organizers, we bring diverse audiences and our network together, providing resources and tools to help reach sustainability goals.

In 2019 we will:

  • Recruit at least 7 million additional square feet to meet the goals of the Philadelphia 2030 District, improving upon the 45,000 metric tons of carbon avoided by participating buildings to-date.
  • Host at least eight trainings for architects, engineers, code officials, and other professionals to support Energy Code Implementation in Philadelphia.
  • Engage community development corporations in a day-long educational workshop on developing Climate Resilient Communities at the neighborhood scale.

With your support we are creating impact through green building engagement opportunities!
