Green Building United’s Groundbreaker Awards event is an opportunity to show appreciation and recognition of the accomplishments and the professionals championing a sustainable built environment in our region. As a longtime GBU member, there are two events a year I try not to miss - the Sustainability Symposium and Groundbreakers, which is in just one month! Groundbreakers is a chance to celebrate the incredible efforts of our members and broader community and the projects they brought to life in the past year. It’s also a fundraiser for GBU - we are extremely grateful to the event sponsors and attendees. This is my appeal to encourage you to sponsor and/or buy tickets! Celebrating Local Champions
Our Groundbreaker Awards ceremony is not just about recognizing impressive buildings but also the amazing people and organizations behind them. These local champions have dedicated their time, expertise, and resources to make our community more sustainable. Let’s give them a round of applause and their moment of fame.
In-Person Connections: The Heart of Our Event
Speaking of applause (which really falls flat in virtual settings), I’m excited we will be at the Academy of Natural Sciences. It’s a great place to spend an evening celebrating with friends - new and old - and if you are feeling like you need a break from them, you can hang out with the dinosaurs.
Why am I attending Groundbreakers?
Besides the fact that it would be a bad look for the Board chair to not attend…..
I expect to:
- Feel inspired and hopeful
- See old friends and colleagues and make new connections
- Applaud the awardees and celebrate the many and diverse accomplishments of our community
- Financially support GBU which is leading many important sustainability initiatives in our region
