Join Green Building United for a virtual Coffee Chat with our 2025 Martin Fellow, Navya Pandey, who will present her research on the role of reflective “cool roofs” in reducing extreme heat and household energy burden in Philadelphia’s Hunting Park neighborhood.
Through spatial analysis, policy review, and community interviews, the project quantifies the growth of cool roofs over the last 15 years and explores their impacts on thermal comfort, energy costs, and solar readiness. The research also identifies barriers to wider adoption and offers lessons that can guide equitable climate resilience programs in similarly heat-vulnerable communities, including in Delaware.
The Martin Fellowship honors the legacy of Muscoe Martin, AIA, LEED Fellow, a lifelong environmentalist, educator, and founding member of Green Building United.
