Did you know that the average greenhouse uses 5 times as much energy per square foot as a commercial office building?
Our region’s cold dark winters require a massive amount of energy to keep a glass box tempered, but it’s possible to design a greenhouse and headhouse for energy efficiency, and Mt. Cuba Center and Re:Vision Architecture sought to do just that. To assist with the project’s net-zero energy goal, included are a 165 kW PV array, energy-efficient lighting, an opaque and insulated north greenhouse wall, insulated stem walls, durable and low-embodied carbon materials, and rainwater harvesting.
Join Re:Vision’s project leaders Kristen Suzda and Scott Kelly for a tour and presentation of the new greenhouse and headhouse at Mt. Cuba Center, Delaware’s nationally recognized native plant sanctuary.
