Friday, November 7th – November 14th | Review of nominations and approval of final slate
Friday, November 21st | Candidate notification
Monday, November 24th – Friday, December 12th | GBU Members vote on the slate
Tuesday, December 16th | Elected Directors invited to December 2025 Green Building United Board Meeting
Election Process
Step 1: Nominations will be accepted from September 19th – October 31st,, which will be submitted through the nomination form below. Nominations can either be submitted by the nominee or on behalf of the nominee. After the nomination period, the Governance and Executive Committees will evaluate the applications using the criteria noted below. Applicants will be notified if they have been selected for the slate no later than Friday, November 21st.
Step 2: Voting for the Board of Director elections will be open from November 24th through December 12. Voting is conducted online via the Green Building United website and only members of Green Building United may vote. Candidates will be notified of the results prior to public announcement.
2025 Board Candidate Criteria
The Green Building United Governance Committee will use criteria below to evaluate all nominees. Based on these criteria a ballot will be established with the slate of candidates for the open board seats. During voting, members may vote for or against the entire slate, or for or against individual candidates.
Nominees should:
- Contribute to achieving Green Building United’s mission by providing strategic direction, fiduciary oversight, and fundraising/engagement support.
- Bring substantive knowledge and experience related to Green Building United’s mission, and be a contributing participant in the organization’s activities.
- Bring the ability and willingness to be an active board member by supporting ad-hoc initiatives, attending GBU events, taking leadership roles within the board, and connecting GBU with productive partnerships.
- Contribute to the Board’s demographic diversity, as well as in geography, skills, and overall perspective
- Bring the ability and willingness to help secure funding for Green Building United’s programs through sponsorships, corporate and charitable sources, and other significant sources of funding.
- Bring the ability and willingness to influence key players and sectors in the industry, including high priority sectors of real estate, corporate, energy/utility, finance, residential and product manufacturers.
- Have the ability and willingness to abide by the Board of Directors Responsibilities and Expectations.
- Exhibit a passion for sustainability with the ability to advocate for and support the mission of Green Building United.
