In May, the HERE 4 Climate Justice coalition mobilized dozens of Philadelphians to advocate for City funding for Built to Last whole home repair program, and to challenge PGW’s proposed rate increase.
At City Hall, more than 20 community members—many directly impacted by unsafe housing—testified in support of allocating $10 million in the City budget for the Philadelphia Energy Authority’s Built to Last program, which administers critical home repairs and energy efficiency upgrades for low-income households. Just days earlier, nearly three dozen City residents testified before the PA Public Utility Commission, urging them to reject PGW’s proposed 13% rate increase and instead require a plan for transitioning to affordable, renewable energy—rather than investing in more polluting fossil gas infrastructure.
