Join us for a tour of 2300 Market Street, a 242,000 GSF life sciences research building in Center City Philadelphia that pairs a contemporary overbuild with the rehabilitation of an early 20th-century brick building and the reconstruction of an adjoining building’s handmade terracotta facade.

With no historic listing requiring their retention, the decision to keep and build upon the existing structures was an intentional choice rooted in the conviction that reuse was the best path forward. The tour will cover the building’s high performance envelope and mechanical systems, the adaptive reuse strategy and its embodied carbon implications, the terracotta salvage and GFRC reconstruction process, and the overbuild structural approach that leveraged existing early 20^th century industrial structural bays for a modern lab module.

The tour is led by the project’s owner/developer (Breakthrough Properties), architect (KieranTimberlake), and MEP systems engineer (BR+A).
